Yes, I have seen farmers do this many times, but of course it depends on the disposition of the cows and horses being housed together. Usually the paddock is big enough that they aren't always running into each other.

If there are calves or foals present though, I wouldn't keep them together because the protective parents might fight, or the babies could get trampled.

A lot of people run their horses and cows together. We have and the only time we had a problem was with one particular horse that was 1/2 Welsh and 1/2 QH. She was just an old bi@*ch to everything and ran the calves. We took her out and the rest got along fine. Many people think that putting horses in with cattle helps them be more "cowy". Mostly they ignore each other, though we had a cow who always ate with the horses. Just watch them and if one gives you a problem, get it out of there.

yes. I think I read somewhere that if you have cows & horses in the same pasture that when the cows eat the grass they don't get worms or anything because their stomachs are different. So that would mean less chances of a horse getting worms, but you should still deworm a horse regularly.

I've heard of people who have horses that firghten at noises that they may hear normally will pasture them with cows. Cows don't spook and the horses eventually learn that there is nothing to freak out about.

Good for horses that live near traffic or tend to run around their pastures at small disturbances. If the cows calm them down, reduces the risk that the horses will hurt themselves. I've seen nasty gashes (that you could put your hand into) from horses running into wooden fences.

yes it is- i have put my horses with my cows for years and there have never been any real problems. Except that my gelding used to chase the baby calves around the field. We always put my mare in with the cows when my gelding was away at a show, so that she wouldnt be so lonely. It works, they get along just fine.
