The USA makes it impossible to migrate. When my wife emigrated from Switzerland, it cost more than $2,500 for miscellaneous INS fees and another $4,000 in legal fees. The process took over 5 years, AFTER we got married. There wouldn't be such a debacle over this issue if the USA would loosen their policies on immigration. If it was easier to become a citizen, or permanent resident- there wouldn't be so much rampant tax evasion and illegal employment. These poor immigrants would be able to contribute so much more if they were welcomed into the USA, rather than feared.

Isn't it really the USA who has failed this issue? Wouldn't you want to emigrate to the USA if you lived in Mexico? Shouldn't we be WELCOMING Mexicans instead of FEARING and LOATHING them?

Sir,

America has Immigration Laws. Because so many people want to Immigrate to this country from so many countries, the INS has established quotas for the various countries.
There are always more wanting to come in than the yearly quota for any given country.

Your experience tells me that you did not bother to check with the US State Department to find out the US requirements for immigrating American Citizens foreign brides into the US.

My Experiences were just the opposite from yours!

While stationed in Vietnam, as an unmarried solider, I adopted a five year old Vietnamese Child. Before starting, I wrote to the US State Dept. and requested documentation covering US Laws and Requirements for adopting foreign children and bringing the child to America.

I wrote the same letter to the Vietnamese State Court and received their Laws and guidance. Using the two, I completed the adoption in 28 days. Too, the child flew back to American with me on my military travel orders. From another section of the US documentation, I learned how to get the child immediate, US Citizenship! It is called an Expeditious Citizenship! It is all in the documentation, too, I only paid about $100.00 for Vietnamese Court Cost to adopt the child and it was a very small cost for the citizenship, less than $100.00.

I am also married to a Korean woman that traveled from Korea to the United States for our wedding that took place in the US. Her travel ticket from Korea to New Jersey cost
10 times more than the cost to process the paper work! Less than three months after our marriage, we flew back from Germany to get her Expeditious Citizenship.

I also have to children that were born in Germany. Being an American, having children in a foreign country, does not give them automatic US Citizenship, There are rules that must be followed shortly after their birth.

Your issues are the same ones people have when they buy new electronics, they will not read the users guide and you did not bother to find out about US Laws before you got married.

No country allows people to enter their country without their required documentation, doing so in many countries will get you shot or in jail! We have laws and if people wanting to come here can not respect our laws, then they do not need to come and we should not allow law breakers in.

The millions that broke our Laws to get in have consciously broke or laws after seeking in, Laws that would put every American in Jail for a log time!

If they own and drive a car, what documentation did they provide to get the drivers license? Forged/fake documentation! Serious violation of state law.

If they enrolled a child in school, what documentation did they provide the school?

Do the use a Social Security Number, Forged/Fake documentation (Federal Law)
They not only showed no respect for our country and its laws to get in, they willfully continue to break any US law they want to in order to get any thing that they want!

They are criminals and must GO! Do no tell me about what they do here.

If I rob a bank of %5,000,000.00, use the money to set up hospitals and homes for the US poor, when they catch me will I be allowed to keep the money and not go to jail!

No one here "fears" or "loathes" Mexicans or any other nationality, but just as your spouse had to go through the proper channels to get here (like it or not) so should everyone else. Think about how completely over run our country would be if we just opened our doors and let every one in. The economy would be crippled because none of these people have employment, hospitals and schools would be impossible to get into, not to mention the lovely terrorists that would just love a free pass into the good ole U.S.A. There are laws in place for a REASON and just because you may have had to overcome some hardship does not mean that these laws are wrong or useless.

Your children may thank you some day.

As an educator, I see the language barrier as the largest problem. Even though the United States doesn't have an official language, the unofficial official language is English. Before coming into the country, I believe that they should have to pass a language proficiency exam. If we pass them through school with materials written in Spanish, will that really do them any good when they get out in the English-speaking country? They will still be as handicapped as they were, and that completely defeats the purpose of their coming up in the first place. In sum, they should be able to speak English, and everything would be acceptable.

I don't fear or loathe them. I welcome the legal version. I agree that it should be easier for legal immigration but the laborers mostly want to work and then return to Mexico. My wife immigrated from England and the cost was minimal but the hoops we had to jump through and the myriad forms were ridiculous. I support immigration reform for legal immigration and I support reform for the securing of our borders. This would do great things for controlling the drug trafficking as well as the bums and crooks coming here and wreaking havoc on our economy.

Workers should be allowed to obtain temporary work visas and they should have to pay out of their income the cost to investigate their activities here. Not just giving them a free pass to come and disappear from the radar.

Why should we give so much to mexico? Just becuase they are right next to us. I agree that it is very costly and hard to immigrate but if they are going to open the doors how about doing it with Bolivia and other countries that are far more poor and in more need. Mexicans think they can just come and fill up the jails, fill up our hospitals, get free tuition etc. That is what really makes me mad. Also if anybody trys to immigrate to Mexico it is far harder than comming to the USA. Hypocrites

CHEAP LABOR
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage
Consumers don't want expensive produce
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs
But the bottom line is cheap labor
The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie there is no such thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children.
He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour.
At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
He qualifies for food stamps
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
He requires bilingual teachers and books
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare.
All of this is at that taxpayer's expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour Left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor?
YEAH RIGHT!
Wake up people!

Although our legal immigration policies need revision, that does not excuse coming into our country illegally. Our immigration methods can be whatever they want to be, that doesn't give anyone a right break the law.

If they truly want to come here, they should do it legally. I am glad that they want to make a better life them and their families, but why come illegally? Many illegals have committed crimes in Mexico and are simply trying to run from the law. Then, when they come here illegally, they commit more crimes and are never prosecuted for their action b/c they are illegal and unable to find.

America is a country and must be concerned with its own survival and self improvement.

We cannot pay for their social services.
They are a drain on our country not a boon to our economy.

Coming to America and becomeing an American is a privilige not a right.
If you dont want to play by our rules, go home.
