once you're merely getting began, i ought to bypass with the present version of Ubuntu. that is amazingly intuitive compared to the better stepped forward distributions of Linux, and has a tremendous community and distinctive drivers for it. easily any situation that you may run into has a answer which will properly be got here upon on the Ubuntu forums or from Google. Kubuntu is yet another decision. it is basically Ubuntu, yet makes use of KDE for its GUI rather of Gnome. seems a touch state-of-the-paintings.

yes you can but linux is not an os in itself. there are several distributions of linux:Red Hat Linux, Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Fedora Linux, Gentoo Linux, and many others.
You download one of these distributions and then install it.
redhat.org for Redhat.
fedora.redhat.org for Fedora
debian.org for Debian
ubuntu.org for Ubuntu
gentoo.org for gentoo
distrowatch.com for more distributions(or distros)

At distrowatch, you can see a rank listing of all the Linux distrobutions that exists, as well what applications do they run, and links to their homepages. You can even search for the ideal distribution for your hardware.
I'm pretty happy with Ubuntu
