They were abducted on their way home from a vacation. They were driving on a lonely road somewhere in the northeast. They saw a light ,i think it was following them.Barney got out of the car and looked at it through his binoculars, while Betty walked their dog. I'm not too sure how they ended up on the space-craft,but they had experiments performed on them, and Betty was shown a star map of where the visitors claimed they came from. They had completely blocked the incident out of their minds. They had missing time.I think the incident came out in hypno-therapy.Betty drew the star map and it turned out to be a constellation that had not yet been discovered.I don't remember anything else about it,but I'm sure you could look it up on line.I don't remember the name of the movie but I know James Earl Jones played the part of Barney. It was a pretty creepy movie.

Their experiences were written up in the book, The Interrupted Journey by John G. Fuller. The Hills were on their way back home in New Hampshire and saw strange lights in the sky. Barney got out to investigate and that was the last thing they remembered before finding themselves about 30 miles from where they were and having lost several hours. After several years one of them started having nightmares and they underwent regressive hypnosis and suddenly remembered these little strange grey guys with big black eyes and a saucer -shaped object, being taken aboard and having all kinds of experiments performed on them before they were let go. It was one of the first and most widely publicized alien abduction cases.

Yes, I remember that story from the Sixties. I even have a copy of the book, The Interrupted Journey, somewhere.

Why do you ask?

I remember reading it - my father gave me a book on it when I was 7 (kids' version). I recall something about their car clock being suddenly two hours 'off', the two of them retelling everything under hypnosis, and Betty drawing an unknown constellation.

I remember the story, but for the life of me I can't remember details except they 'woke up' twenty or thirty miles from where they last saw a bright light in the sky. I think there is a book about it, not sure though.

I remember. You do realize that they both recanted and admitted to fraud. The real cause celeb with this case, was not the alleged abduction, but that they were a mixed couple in the fifties.
