And I DO mean hunting animals with rifles or bows. It's big business where I live - bumper stickers here say "Vegetarian: and old Indian word for lousy hunter." People come from all over the world to hunt here.

I DO hunt. I hunt for food AND for sport. I LOVE being out in the woods with my rifle. Sometimes I just sit and daydream. Sometimes I stalk a deer and get it.

I also hunt upland birds. Grouse is yummy. There is NOTHING like getting outside in the crisp fall air and tracking the ever elusive buck.

Opening day of deer season is almost a holiday here.

I don't travel far as I've got 45+/- acres of my own to hunt on.

The time I hunt for sport is for bear, I don't eat bear meat (too gamy for me, but I do donate it to Hunters for the Hungry). I've got 3 bears and I have 3 bear skin rugs in my home. Bears are different to hunt, you smell them before you see them.

I got a bow this spring and plan to do some turkey hunting with that. And, the State of Maine has allowed hunting with a crossbow, so I'm going to look into that. I've always wanted to fire a crossbow!

I have seriously high levels of testosterone ... and have been hunting quite a lot. It just doesn't turn me on with a Rush of Blood to the Head like it should. I wish it did. I respect the men who groove on it. I understand it totally ... but I have found my path to life on a different road. I have a desire to start a war if I could find something worth fighting for. But going out to Alaska or Minnesota to find the wild game doesn't compare to the holy rage I would express if callled upon to protect my family.

I would rather hunt for geocaches. While I understand why hunting game is popular, and if done properly even relatively humane, it's simply not my kind of activity. However, I would hike for kilometres to find a really good geocache.

If I were to hunt I think I would start crying when the animals die.

I have hiked many miles to fish.
Meat is delivered to my local grocery store so I don't need to venture out and kill it myself.
