'Tain't really that old, really old country song. I can remember it in my youth. Well, yeah, I guess that it is really old then. Well the song was sung by Cisco Houston, back in the 1930's about the boll weevil. The boll weevil is a insect that destroys the cotton boll. That's where the cotton grows from the plant.
