False.

I prefer Linux. But if you are trying to decide between the two of those, you have to decide what you want to do with your computer. If you are planning to do intensive graphics, video, or sound editing, go with a Mac. The software is cheaper (although the Mac itself isn't), and it has been working with those for much longer.

If you want to be able to modify your system later (change hardware, change OS, etc.) or do most gamming applications, go with a PC. While Apple is slowly coming around (with getting Intel chips, etc.), it is still easier to change your system when you have a PC. PCs are also, generally, cheaper than Macs, so unless you are planning on using a Mac for what it is strongest in, you can do the same things on both.

Do remember though that Windows does have more viruses out in the wild than Macs do. You will need to install anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software before doing almost anything. Fortunately though, all of this software can be found free (I got everything from http://www.download.com/ ), so it doesn't increase the cost beyond the time it takes to set up.

Linux. :)

Of windows and mac, I think I'd probably go for the mac. I've done windows all my life and I'm tired of the problems I have with it. Linux is almost ready to be very user friendly, but the Mac, while built on a similarly solid foundation, has a much better interface.

I'll probably never migrate to Windows Vista. I'll switch to mac or linux exclusively.

edit >> Props to John J for a good comparison.

I would say windows just for the fact I understand it better. My grandma has a Mac and I am so lost when I attempt to help her or use it.
