What causes acne?
Acne is caused by the overactivity of the sebaceous glands that secrete oily substances onto the skin.

The sebaceous glands of people with acne are especially sensitive to normal blood levels of a hormone called testosterone, found naturally in both men and women.

Testosterone in people prone to acne triggers the sebaceous glands to produce an excess of sebum. At the same time, the dead skin cells lining the openings of the hair follicles (the tubes that hold the hair) are not shed properly and clog up the follicles.

These two effects combined cause a build-up of oil in the hair follicles. This causes blackheads and whiteheads to form.

For some people, their acne does not progress beyond this stage.

However in other people, the build-up of oil in the hair follicles creates an ideal environment for a bacterium called Propionibacterium acnes to grow.

These bacteria normally live harmlessly on your skin but when this ideal environment is created, they grow. They feed off the sebum and produce substances that cause a response from your body's immune system. This inflames the skin and creates the redness associated with spots.

In more severe 'inflammatory acne', cysts develop beneath the skin's surface. These acne cysts can rupture, spreading the infection into nearby skin tissue. This can result in scarring.

No one factor causes acne. As physicians understand it, acne happens when oil (sebaceous) glands come to life around puberty, when these glands are stimulated by male hormones that are produced in the adrenal glands of both boys and girls. The oil glands, which are located just beneath the skin, continuously produce and secrete oil through openings in the skin. The oil lubricates and protects the skin. Under certain circumstances, cells that are close to the openings of the oil glands block the openings. This causes a buildup of oil underneath the skin. Bacteria, which live in everyone's skin but generally mind their own business, feast on this oil, multiply, and cause the surrounding tissues to become inflamed.
If the inflammation is right near the surface, you get a pustule; if it's deeper, a papule (pimple); deeper still and it's a cyst. If the oil breaks though to the surface, the result is a " whitehead." If the oil becomes oxidized (that is, acted on by oxygen in the air), the oil changes from white to black, and the result is a " blackhead."

A white head is basically puss formed because your body is fighting off an infection. There are bacteria on your skin that eat oil. When a pimple gets clogged, it fills up with oil. The bacteria start to eat and reproduce like crazy, because they have a source of food. White blood cells enter the clogged pore to kill the extra bacteria, and the pimple swells up.

Stress can cause you to secrete more oil, so you will get a pimple before that big date because you are nervous.

A pimple is a type of skin lesion that is caused by inflamed and/or obstructed pores. The most common cause of pimples is acne; however, other causes, such as smallpox exist as well.

Acne is a common disorder that is characterized by clogged pores and pimples in the skin. Permanent scars, as well as pain and itching may accompany the disorder. However, acne is not a serious health threat. Many people with acne are acutely self-conscious about the condition. Frequently affecting adolescents, acne may intensify feelings of shyness that are extremely common during the teen years.

Pimples are NOT caused by anything you eat, or your mood.
It is caused by your skin creating too much oil, clogging your pores and causing an infection that ends up in a pimple-
The only way to get rid of them is to exfoliate, and clean your face well.

there are many different reasons to get pimples, the food you eat can make you break out such as chocolate, junk food, greasy food like mcdonalds-wendys-etc, you can also break out right before you get your period, during or after, it can also be caused by allergies, and weather, in the winter or summer, too dry skin or too oily, it can be caused by makeup, or using soap instead of a good cleanser or other product gentle for your face, hope this gives you some reasons---i am sure there are so many more to!

Pimples come from clogged pores. If you wear alot of make-up and do not properly cleanse the skin is one common way. It can also occur from stress and diet, as well as sweat. My suggestion to avoid is to cleanse with a product that contains salicic acid (clean&clear or neutrogena). Drink 8 glasses of H2O.

Because, as you're growing up, you go through a stage where your hormones go crazy, which causes enzymes to run amuck in your head, causing PIMPLES and the inability to spell correctly. Don't worry... it goes away.
