I am afraid you friend has lived with some very difficult trauma in her life. Now that she is 18, she will need to seek counselling on her own. Sucking your thumb at that age is a sign of something far worse than just a "habit".

Buy her a baby bottle. I've seen lots of adults thumb-sucking and it's disgusting not to mention reeks havoc on your teeth!

Some retarded ten year old I met. She sucked on it so much, if you look at both thumbs, one is smaller than the other.

Yes. I know this woman who sucked her thumb while we were both in our 20's. I think she went to therapy. She doesn't now.

No, I gave it up at age 5. My brother used to tell me that my finger would shrink if I didn't quit.

there's that liquid that you paint on your thumb that tastes badly so you eventually give up the habit...you might also want to show her how thumbsucking leads to dental issues! ask any othrodontist

Only children. They make a nail polish that tastes terrible so people don't chew their nails. That'd work.

there is really no antidote. You just have to tell here how immature that is and that she has to discipline herself not to do it.I still see women in professional places of bussiness do it occasionally.
