Ewido is the best I've used so far and believe me, I've tried em all. Most people dont realise this program is actually free, what happens is, you download an evaluation of the pro version and after the trial period expires, you choose to go pro and pay or stick with the standard version (free).
Different programs have different spyware definitions so some catch certain spyware while others catch still more, Ewido is the most comprehensive I've seen, try the online scan first to check it out if you wish, source below:
In my experience using an all in one solution isnt a good idea. If you have problems with the program you get left with no protection at all.If you have anti virus, antispy and firewall programs running independantly of each other, if one gives you problems you still have the other two running.
ps. DO NOT use windows xp firewall, it is worse than useless since it provides little or no protection at all and lets you believe you are protected, determined hackers bypass it without any problem at all.
If you need a (free) effective firewall use Zone Alarm

well done for picking avg anti-virus,its a excellent program and does the job as good as any other payed for product
as for anti-spyware a mixture of 2 programs would give you the best overall protection, spybot avalible from http://www.safer-networking.org/,is probally the best anti-spy software you will find anywere,it cleans all known spyware and will protect you from spyware in the future(due to the immunization feature)
mix that program with ewido avalible from http://www.ewido.net/en/,this is a newer program but is great at cleaning up hard to shift infections, but combining this with spybot will give you excellent protection
good luck

The truth is that when it comes to spyware you have to cover your backside and use more than one tool; a layered approach is best as no one antispyware tool is going to provide total immunity whatever software manufacturers claim or whatever proponents claim. It is quite feasible to use Spybot Search & Destroy, Windows Defender and Spywareblaster together; you can use programmes like Ewido (which integrates with windows explorer so that you can right-click on any file and scan it separately) or AdAware or Superantispyware as backup too. They are all likely to find different stuff; your problem then is to determine whether the results are genuine or false positives.
Here is a trustworthy source to download all the major free antispyware tools
- http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/
superantispyware
- http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Super-Anti-Spyware/SuperAntiSpyware.html
Shareware like Spysweeper and Spyware Doctor often detect and remove spyware that freeware tools can't.
As a further layer of defence you could use McAfee Site Advisor which is a free antiphishing tool
- http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html
It works with Firefox; as does the Netcraft toolbar.
Another approach is to use heuristic analysis as a means of prevention. Look at free tools like Cyberhawk and Prevx but use them with caution!

Mcafee is rubbish and does not work, use it for 6 months and then install norton and run it and see for yourself. There are many free ones out there AVG is the best of these. Do yourself a favour and check out Fsecure. If you are using windows you need something that works or you will be counting the cost and that wont be free.

A combination of Spybot and ad-aware works perfectly for me!
and it's freeware without any ads, ad-aware is even included in the google pack, but I experienced they both find other spyware, so combinate them, and you will be fine

hi, i recommand you to use firefox. firefox is more safe than IE.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
firefox can edit which site/popup to block and unblock.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
download firefox for free:
