they're called the packers because they started the money from a local meat packaging company, and they are called the steelers because pittsburgh is home to US steel, how could you not know that #1

Yep named after Paul Brown.

The Dawg Pound got started in the 80's by DB Hanford Dixon who sounded like a dog barking while making the defensive calls. It caught on with the fans particularly in the East End Zone closest to the field and the Dawg Pound was born. Thus the Dawg mascot.

...and while on the additional details in your Q: The Steelers logo came from Republic Steel in CLEVELAND. True fact.

i think the mascot used to be a 'brownie' ( a little pixie gnome thingamabob dude) the mascot is a dog now because in the 80's the defense was known as the dawgs and the open end of the old stadium was called the dawg pound. those big old pumpkins they wear on their heads are the coolest helmets!

Their name comes from the team's founder, Paul Brown. I don't know why their helmets are orange.

Back in the 1970's and 1980's, the team's most ravenous fans were referred to as "Dawgs". The section where they sat was dubbed the "Dawg Pound".

The Browns were named after Paul Brown, their original owner. Their helmets are a lighter brown, almost orange.
