As always there could have been a better use for the money but as neither you nor I grew up in that time period we know too little about the times that were being lived. The most important thing at the time was National Pride. Something that is sorely lacking in todays society. Therefore no there could not have been a better use for the money since it was spent so that Americans could claim dominance in one more thing. Probably the reason we still spend money on the space program today, yeah yeah I know its all about the research but do you really think the gov. penny pincher's care about the research? It is so that America can retain the dominant presence in that field.

Better in the short run? Sure. It would have fed a lot of people
during the late 60s.
However, the technology that came from the Gemini and
Apollo programs returned 9 times the investment in terms
of new companies, inventions, improved efficiencies in farming, etc.
That entirely ignores that you are slowly destroying the planet
and our only hope of survival is to figure out how to get off
it and spread ourselves out so that any given segment of
the population won't destroy the rest of it (not my thought,
that's Stephen Hawking).
So ... maybe there were better things we could do with
the money - but I haven't heard any suggestions so far
that come close.
Realistically, it will take more than a hundred years of
prolonged adequate funding of a space program to get us
to the point where we have any chance of surviving as
a species without using Earth as a home base.
Maybe we can't do it. If we can't ... well, it was STILL worth
the technology it brought to us. Japan etc. does far better
at investing government money into technology than the US
does.

the respond to this could properly be a huge definite. even with the undeniable fact that, i'm afraid that the final public of Canadians does no longer settle for such use of public funds and that's a shame. human beings will see such spending as ineffective and frivolous. yet interior the subsequent 10 years, many countries will enter a clean area race wherein the USA, Russia and China could be the foremost gamers. Why no longer incorporate Canada as a miles companion to the U. S. in this race? Why shouldn't we've our area heroes as those different international locations could have (or have already got)? Our astronauts are properly experienced and are as powerfuble as their American companions. do we choose the easy way and say no or settle for the project and deliver a Canadian to the Moon and doubtless Mars ultimately? Why shouldn't we be allowed to have such objectives like those different international locations? Are we that unfavourable and unimaginative? i'm hoping no longer.

There could have been no better investment. One day the earth will no longer be habitable, having used all it's natural resources, and the moon, or some other as-of-yet undiscovered planet, will need to be our new home. If we didn't figure out how to get there, what will he do when we need to live there?
That is, if you believe mankind won't devise another alternative to living on this planet when or if that time comes.

No. The trip to the moon generated 100 times the costs in economic benefits.
For example. It was the impetus for inventing smaller, faster computers. What are you using today has its genesis in the US and Russian space race.

No way! The exploration of space has greatly improved our everyday lives. There are so many inventions in existence today as a result of the space program.

No. Think of Tang, microwaves, and other tech that came about because of it. We have reaped the benefits of the lunar landing in our new technology.
