not necessarily. it really depends on why you had to have the c.section. that's the most important factor.

my first was delivered by Cesarean section as i had grade 3 placenta praevia (placenta laying over the cervix).

my second was born 2 years 11months later. with her the doctors warned me that i may have needed another c.section as i had grade 1 praevia, but that if it was possible then i should attempt a vaginal delivery as these are less risky and the mother recovers a whole lot quicker.

and so, my daughter was delivered vaginally. out of the two i would most definitely recommend vaginal delivery as it's a damn sight less painful (contrary to what anyone may think!) and the pain doesn't last nearly as long as staples and stitches. ouch!

bonus of vaginal is that your body immediately starts to fix your body up! pelvic bones return to original position, tummy starts tightening up etc. i know breast feeding kick starts this too, so if you did both then... wahay, less sit ups required!

i think it's reasonable to assume your doctor will already have your best interest in mind. he's not going to give you bad advice, and we don't know the reason for your first c.section so my advice to you is to go ask him what your options are and get him to explain fully to you any risks involved using either method.

Also discuss your concerns over the inadequate epidural you had. There may have been a reason it wasn't topped up...something to do with the baby or yourself, that you weren't aware of? And so this may not be relative to a 2nd c.section?

Good Luck :o)

IF it were 15 years ago you definately would have been forced to. But now as long as the actual birth dates are close to 2 years apart then unless it is another emergency reason, you shouldn't have to have another C-section. I wondered this too because I had a C-section with my youngest. The "protocall" nowadays is if the last pregnancy (one w/C-sect) was <2 years ago a C-section This time is most likely gonna happen. >2 years ago, you wouldn't be more or less likely than any other normal pregnancy. My sister did in fact have 2 C-sections because the 2nd one was in 1990, but her next children were "natural" deliveries. Hope this helps & you have a good weekend!

No,you shouldn't have to have another c-section unless there is another emergency, but the second child is sooooooo much easier than the first and usually labor and delivery is faster too.C-section is your choice, unless like I said something goes wrong. That is terrible what happened with your first child, and unless you have some medical reason why you would have to have another c-section like having a narrow birth canal, there is no reason why you can't have a natural birth this time.Always talk to your ob/gyn to stress your concerns and to make sure he or she knows how you feel about c-sections and why you feel the way you do,and they can give you the best advice.

I remember hearing that if you have a c-section on your first child, chances are you will on your second. My sister had her first child 2 years ago, had a section, and just recently had another 2 months ago. Talk to your doctor for more information, I'm sure they won't mess up your epidural again.

It's going to really depend on you and your doctor.
What you are wanting is referred to as a "v-back" meaning a vaginal birth after having had a c-section. Back in the 70's it was not even a possibility (my mother had me via c-section and then had to have my brother the same way even though he was a much smaller baby and she probably could have delivered him naturally).
These days it's more a questions of safety and liability. Most doctors don't like to do a vaginal birth after a c-section because there's a greater risk of complications. They'd rather not risk it.
Talk to your OB/GYN and see how they feel about it. It isn't impossible, but your doctor will have a better idea in your particular case.
Good luck!

You have to allow a gap between births. check with your GP/midwife they will advise you.

If you have been given a C section you do get a choice on your next birth.
Tell them your fears.

my friend had her 1st baby by C section, and her 2nd normal delivery 2 years later. She prefered the C Section because she had more problems giving birth naturally.

You could always asked to be 'knocked out' for the next C section (If it cannot be avoided).

Hope this helps.

First of all, I must say you are crazy! I've had 3 babies and the first was vaginal - OH HELL NO - the last 2 were C-Sections!!! Oh I would prefer to never go thru another vaginal delivery again!!!! Ah, but each of us are quite unique!

Chances are you won't have to have another C-Section! Look up the term "VBAC" I think it stands for vaginal birth after c-section. My friend who was pregant wanted that and she delivered fine.

*****Most important:
********FIND A DR WHO SUPPORTS YOUR DECISION!!!! *******

Because a doctor who listens to YOU is the key. If you just get any old schmo-joe doctor, that's not going to care one way or the other, as long as there are no complications - regardless of how YOU feel! so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember that! Find a doctor who is going to be in your corner for your health, your peace of mind, and your baby!!!

First of all find an OB/Gyn who will do VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and as long as your pregnancy is progressing normally and you could have a vaginal delivery. Many OB/Gyns won't perform VBAC for insurance reasons. Also it depends on how the doctor did your incision. If the cut was vertical it isn't safe to attempt a vaginal birth. A horizontal cut is better.

When my mum had my bro first, she had an emergency c section. She had me 17 months later, all natural, and then the third child 11 years later, again all natural. So it all depends on how your labour progresses.

You dont have to have another C Section unless its amedical emergency our unless your doctor thinks its best. The best thing to do before getting pregnant is talk to your OBGYN and see what your chances are of having another C Section.
