I recommend the Judge Dee novels by Robert van Gulik. The writer was ethnically Dutch, but he was born in the Chinese quarter of Jakarta and he married a Chinese. Later he became embassador of the Netherlands in China and he did research in the national library of Beijing. Therefore his novels give a very nice picture of ancient China. I also love the characters in his book. But...he isn't an Asian American, sorry !

Albert Gold's "Memoirs of a Geisha"- fantastic. He's not Asian American but the story is set in Japan. Beautiful.

Novel : Kafka On The Shore. It's by a Japanese writer whose name I can't recall but the book was excellent. I'm gonna give more a try.

YES! Find the woman who wrote, "My Year of Meat". I think it is Ruth Ozeki. That is certainly one of the best books I have ever read. And yes, Woman Warrior is excellent, find it.
