not with flux core wire......

If you are not using flux core wire, you will need some type of shielding gas to make good welds. Flux core doesn't need gas to make a good weld. As jmalloy87 said, Argon is a better gas but CO2 will work. There are also Argon/CO2 mixes. Talk to your welding supplier about what you need for the type of welding you want to do.

it would depend on the material you are welding but in most cases argon is the gas you would use you should check with the manufacturer to be sure
