September-October for the very best weather although winters in southern Europe are relatively mild and the absence of tourists makes visiting in the off-season when rates are lower a very attractive option. Hope that helps! Check out our non-commercial travelogues for ideas for your trip: http://www.thetravelzine.com

The Oktoberfest Beer Festival in Germany is good... that's in ....er... well... October
Christmas is also a good time to visit Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc as they have big fairs and markets.
If you want to go when it's warmer then any time in the summer will do but June or September might be the best choices because they are outside the main tourist season so the prices might be cheaper, the places less crowded yet the weather can generally be expected to be fairly good.

Actually the Oktoberfest is in September.
Europe's a big place and people don't sit around waiting for one particular season - there's always something going on. If you want to ski go in the winter (!) if you want to sit out on the terraces drinking, or go sailing, or hiking... then it's probably best to go in the Spring or Summer. If you want to see the Christmas markets - well you can probably guess.

October fest is obvious. I like November and February. Weather will be fair to bad, however, tickets and lodging are cheap and you do not have to compete with other tourists to see attractions. I have done this twice with guys which also is an influence. Girlfriends or Wives will not typically go for this approach. Good Luck

I went to Bavaria in the summer, but I think it's much better to go during the winter, when the Alps look more impressive. If you're going to other areas, I'd recommend summer.

September. The tourists are gone, the kids in school, the weather is fine. Really, the perfect month!

Depends.... they have something going on all year!!! I love the fall for the wine / beer fests, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the christmas markets in December.
I lived there for two years, so I've seen every season.
