i assume that you are talking about roman or greek gods and goddesses. but yes, there are general differences. the goddesses generally guarded things over the home, life, birth, food, sexuality, things that are actually generally associated with the female in present times. there were a few goddesses that were actually goddesses of wisdom, justice, knowledge such as Athena, Astraea and Bellona, who was a roman goddess or war. there are many gods and goddesses who are in charge of areas that may not seem very feminin or masculine. you can see that just by doing a search online.

There many instances of male deities having associations with things traditionally considered feminine. For instance, Moon Gods. There are many cultures around the world that had Moon Gods. Here are a few: Alignak(Inuit), Chandra(Aryan), Eterah(Semitic), Fati(Polynesian), Gou(Benin), Mani(Nordic). Hermes and Hypnos from Greek Mythology are also considered to have lunar associations. If you search thoroughly you will also find Sun Goddesses and Sky Goddesses. Nut from Egyptian Mythology was a Sky Goddess as well as Hera from Greek Mythology. From Latvian Mythology comes Saule, a Sun Goddess.

Male deities generally deal either with sky themes, lightning and punishment (ie Zeus or Jehovah), or with fertility, lustiness, sexuality, and bawling babies. Their energy is generally thought of as being solar.
Female deities are many times thought of as being associated with the moon, the night, female sexuality, learning, and compassion. As I said, they are more associated with lunar energy.
