Someone with absolutely no knowledge of investments, but would like to do so after coming into some money, but is scared because they don't want to be taken advantage of and lose the money they have just inherited or won from a case.

Index funds are a GREAT first investment which I recommend to everyone I talk to. A great place to buy them through is Vanguard, the second largest mutual fund company. You can learn more about index funds and their specific offerings at:

just park it in a money market account doing at least 4%

talk to people, do research on your own, etc.... before you put it at risk.
