OK...some of you may have seen my questions posted here in these last few weeks related to some female health issues I have been having as of lately. Well today I got my copy of the Transvaginal Ultrasound, certain parts which I can easily understand and other's that I'm unsure about. Does anyone know of a website that could assist me in reading my results? Mainly I'd like to know what's considered "normal" in reference to all the measurements it gives, but an all around better understanding would be greatly appreciated. If anyone could give me some assistance I would greatly appreciate it as I have been dealing with these issues for several weeks and doctors just keep brushing me off. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!!

Before telling me to find a gyno, the only thing my doctor told me was that I have a large cyst in my right ovary and several small ones in my left. But there are unexplained symptoms that I have and there are things in the ultrasound results that are leading me to think it's more serious than she's letting on. She's adamant that I wait and talk to my gyno, but that's still another week away.

PLZ don't tell me to get a new doctor. I'm on state medical assistance and am on my third doctor as of now, the fourth doctor will be next Friday. I understand what cysts are, I know I have them, however the results are confusing and I'd like to be able to read them myself (it's just a print off of the doctors Interpretation w/ measurements of everything)

They don't always show all the cysts. I had polycystic ovarian syndrome and my doctors didn't listen to me that something was wrong. I finally got a GYN surgeon to do a hysterectomy, and she discovered that both ovaries were the size of half-dollars (normally should be about the size of dimes), both had tumors, and my uterus was filled with scars from bad periods. I was ripe for cancer. If your doctors keep brushing you off, contact the patient advocate at the hospital where the tests were done and let them know the issues. They should be able to light a fire under your doctors.

Hi, I'm sorry to here about your health problems. It will get better, don't worry. What the doctors mean by "normal" is that your ovaries are relatively the same size, and one is not larger than the other which could indicate a cyst. pretty much that your "insides" of the reproductive system are normal.. normal findings were found by the ultrasound. the doctors, in an rude sort of way, are telling you that the problem does not lie within those test results. if you still want to check the web, my choice would be to go to www.webmd.com i always go there when i need to check symptoms, just put in the symptom that made you have the transvaginal ultrasound.. pick the syndrome, or try to find ovarian cysts, and then there should be a tab that says "exams and tests", click on that, and you should be able to find what you need. hope you get your answers. I have cysts on both ovaries ,and have had them checked periodically for 2 yrs. They are not growing & so they watch them & I"m fine.
I dont know your other Q's, or symptoms, but I am a health professional, so maybe if I go back & look at them I can sort them out a bit.
you need to know that the big difference is not just "size" of cysts but also if the cyst is solid (a "chocolate cyst" for example) or just fluid filled.... you may want to ask for a doppler ultrasound if you have big concerns...if your gynie says you dont need one, perhaps you dont... or perhaps go get a 2nd opinion from another gynie.
*** Honestly, the WORST thing you can do as a layperson is try to interpret your lab results yourself.... if nothing else, take it to your primary care doctor & see what he/she says .

Please see the webpages for more details on Ovarian cysts and Transvaginal ultrascopy.
Transvaginal ultrasound is used to evaluate a variety of abnormalities of the female genital tract. Some of these include the endometrium of women with infertility problems or abnormal bleeding; sources of unexplained pain; congenital malformations of the uterus and ovaries; ovarian tumors and cysts; possible pelvic infection; and causes of infertility

I had one about 18mos ago because I had a cyst. Then the ultrasound showed I had 2. I was okay, but because of previous health issues I had a total hysterectomy. Now my dr told me the results. I didn't really pay too much attention to that.
Your dr or nurse didn't tell you anything?
Maybe you should find another one and they would prolly be glad to help you.

First, If your doctors keep brushing you off you need to get a new doctor. Try using Web MD, medical assc. sites, or even your insurance or pharmacy sites. You might even want to talk to the nurse (privately of course) in your doc's office.

Only a physician or licensed radiologist can correctly interpret your results and what the measurements mean. If you do not trust your physician to explain this to you it is time to find a new physician.
