It's unlikely that you recognize more than a fraction of the LGTB people that cross your path as anything other than other people. The "advertising" is due to mistreatment, maltreatment, inequality, and hatred towards what is in actuality a significant portion of the population. I'm also willing to bet that you can walk down any street in the country holding your wife's hand without fearing you'll be harassed or beaten for what is a very natural non-sexual act. I also know that you get tax write offs that we are denied, don't have to hire an attorney to assure that in the hospital you can be at your wife's side, and don't live with people everywhere denigrating you for simply loving the person you love.

The "advertising" is a political statement. We don't have much of an agenda, just to live in peace with the same rights and privileges as you.

In the first place, whenever you show any public sign of affection for your wife, you are "advertising" that you are straight. The pictures of her and your kids at work "advertise" that you are straight.

Most gay people don't even have pictures of their significant others on their desks at work. This is a benefit that you enjoy, but one which might cause more trouble than not in many workplaces.

Those gay people who have bumper stickers, jewelry etc. are in the minority, and most of them are not advertising their sexuality so much as they are attempting to advance a cause for equal treatment of gay and lesbian (and bisexual and transsexual) persons. This is no different than the people who have bumper stickers for Jesus, for their labor union, for political candidates or for some business that they visited and want to advertise.

Not all gay people are like that as probably most people have said. Its just that because you think it you see it often. But the reason some gay people do do that is because the world right know is fighting against the gay community.

Its almost like the war of isreal and hezbollah... let me explain. (hezbollah = gay / Isreal = straight) Hezbollah does there anual stuff that iritates Isreal. Then Hezbollah almost stops everything for a while. All of the sudden hezbollah starts up again with a big bang (like the gay issue of TIME and Oprah and Gay marriage stuff). Isreal doesnt like that has happened so they attack.

If that clears some stuff up let me know.

Most of us do not go around waving the rainbow flags over our head. This is only done at Pride events! And even then there is still some dignity in what "advertising" that we do! And as far as stickers on the car....well, you know it helps us not feel so damned alone! When you see that rainbow emblem or whatever....it's a good feeling to know that there is someone else in your town that's FAMILY!!!!

Most don't. I know I hate the rainbow items. I don't even own a rainbow. I don't like bumper stickers, so there are none on my car. Most of my gay friends are the same way. Some people like to advertise, but most are just like you.

Believe me, we wish we didn't have to, but there are people out there who are trying to oppress us. When society accepts us as decent law abiding citizens like everybody else (which most of us are), with equal rights, then there will be no need for gay pride parades, and advertising who we are. But until then, there are people out there saying we don't deserve the right to have the full privileges of marriage, we can still be fired from jobs just for being gay, regardless of our workmanship. We can be evicted from our homes for being gay, with no legal protection. The list goes on. The public needs to be educated.

Let's see, how would you feel if a gay man came up to you in the supermarket and hit on you? Would you be offended?

Not all of us advertise with stickers or rainbow shirt. Most of us you have little to no idea who we are. You are talking about a small minority with in our group.

For those who do "advertise" they are just proud to be who they are. Just like the redneck's with thier rebel falgs they post. The religous people with thier WWJD stickers ect... we are no different in our action as most of you are with yours.

Gays aren't advertising anything. You just happen to notice they are gay. If you walk by and see a can of Pepsi on a table they must be advertising because it says "Pepsi" on the can right?

You don't put stickers on your truck because your in a relationship that's excepted by society. Live your life being told your relationship with your wife is wrong, immoral, sick, twisted, ungodlike, Then tell me, in some small way, you wouldn't fight back against all that condem you? Even if that small way is a sticker? Your only other alternative is to stay quiet about who you are, and I don't choose to do that, I'm too proud of myself.

I would guess your wedding band is probably advertisement enough.

Julia's explanation is downright funny.

Most often when I disclose my sexual orientation it is to stop a straight woman from making a fool of herself trying to seduce me. They do that a lot. Guess it is the challenge.

I don't understand why it would be so bothersome to you to see a rainbow on the back of some-body's car. It seems that you would rather pretend that there aren't any homosexuals in the world and this type of "advertisement" breaks your self induced illusion.
