The lyrics have potential, but it is difficult to say whether or not the song is good without hearing the music that goes with it. Songs can be made or ruined by the music and or the lyrics. In my career I have had thousands of demo tapes thrown my way and sometimes the music is great and the lyrics are average yet the song works because the arrangement of the two works.
So the lyrics are workable, I would work a little more on the phrasing if I were him. Also do your boyfriend a favor and have him copyright the song before you start posting his lyrics on the internet.
