they are a virtual band, consisting of dan nakamura, blur's damon albarn, cibo matto's miho hatori and tom tom club's tina weymouth and chris frantz.

The Gorillaz are not a real band. Jamie Hewlett, who's a comedian illustrator and author does each and all of the artwork and movies and Damon Albarn, till now of Blur, does the music.

the band Gorillaz is just 2 british guys. They get a lot of other people to contribute to their music. I saw an interview on MTV with them

well.
they're animated because right now, they're the only animated band that's actually putting out music videos right now.
and cuz they wanna be.
Daft Punk was for a while..
but...
they're not very popular at the moment.
BUT I LOVE BOTH OF THEM.

They are animated because it's different and unlike other bands. Nobody knows who they are. They probably didn't want fame or anything, so they decided to go with being animated.

they r real people they just dont want the publicity and have their faces be seen.

Probably because --- if it's possible --- they're uglier than their animated selves.
