GRATEFUL DEAD, hands down. i loved to go to phish shows, especially 96-98, but they will never be in the same league as the dead.
To "ruforreal?" - there is no way you saw Phish recently. they have not played a show since Coventry in August of 04. You may have seen Trey play with Mike and the Duo, but that is not Phish.

Thats a tough one. I have to go with Phish-- 'cuz I saw them so many times (Jerry died just as I was begining to listen to the Dead, so I never saw them-- but still listen to their music all the time) and have had so many amazing experiences at their shows. But I know (I am not comparing the two at all here cuz they are two distinctly different sounds) that without the Dead's influence, Phish could not have had the career that they did-- providing amazing and unpredictable live performances.
