Doctors generally recommend to wait at least 3 months to 6 months before starting to try to conceive after the termination of use of any form of birth control. BUt if you do get pregnant right away, don't worry if you have only been off birth control for a month, you and the baby will be perfectly fine. I got pregnant while on birth control pills (of course I stopped taking the pills as soon as I found out I was pregnant) and everything was fine - my baby is as healthy as any baby can be.
It just depends on your body and your whole reproductive system - once it's ready you will be able to conceive without any problem. Sometimes though, after stopping the use of birth control, it takes awhile for the body to start regulating ovulation and your hormones that you may not get pregnant on the first try. I've been off birth control for over 6 months now, and we just started trying 2 months ago, and we're still not pregnant. So it depends on your body and the birth control that you have used. I heard that women on Depo shots have a longer time to get pregnant just because it takes awhile for their cycles to go back to normal - it generally takes them between 6 months to 18 months for their menstrual period to come back again. BUt if you are on the pills (or the ring or the patch), it shouldn't take you that long to get your period and your ovulation regulated again.
Goodluck!

You should definitely be off birth control for at least three months or until your cycle is regular again. This should give your body enough time to release all of those hormones that the birth control pill was putting in your body. Depending on your body you may or may not get pregnant right away. The best thing to do is to wait a month to start trying to ensure that you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

well lets see, I've been on birth control for 4 years, no problems (until a couple months ago!). And now I'm 8 1/2 weeks pregnant! So guess what? You don't even need to be off birth control to have a baby!
But in all seriousness, both of my sisters got pregnant within a few months of quitting. And they have perfectly healthy little devils! :)
Good Luck!

Check with your doctor. You should use another form of b/c for at least 3 months after you get off the pill, then start trying to get pregnant.
And don't listen to people who say getting pregnant too soon after being on the pill will cause birth defects, a lot of babies (including myself & I am perfectly healthy) have been conceived while women were on the pill.
Good luck

I am going through the same thing you are right now! My doctor told me that it is best to wait at least a month before trying to get pregnant. That way yout hormones are in the proper proportion again to allow a pregnancy to thrive. I will let you know that there is a small threat of miscarrige due to once again our hormones. My husband and I are trying. Best to talk with your doctor about what the best course of action is. And by the way....being off the pill a short time will not deform your babies. Obviously the person who had said that doesnt give a damn. Happy Trying!

I've read things that say that you can start trying right after you're off it. The hormones go out of your system pretty fast (seeing as you have to replenish them every 24 hours by taking another pill). But some women take a few months to get back to their regular cycle after getting off birth control. You could talk to your doctor and see what they say.

Different for every one and varies depending on the type of birth control you were taking. Usually, if you are having periods, you are ovulating and are able to get pregnant. My sister didn't have a period for 6 months after here Depo-Provera shot wore off, and I got pregnant with twins while taking it.

I heard that you can start right after getting off b/c, but you may not get prego. I was on b/c for almost ten years I've been off for two months and I just found out yesterday that I'm 4 weeks prego. So that means I stopped my b/c had a period on cycle day 25 and got prego that following ovulation.
Good Luck!
