I dont mind paying money up to $80. Please give me suggestions, and if you have any experience with them.

I'd prefer a paid one that doesnt have a free version so I wont have to compromise free for cheaper protection.

zonealarm is the best free firewall. Don't pay as the free version works very nicely.

As far as AV goes avast free edition is pretty good. However if you want the best av software it is like 40 bucks and it's called nod32. I don't care what others say or even reviews nod32 is the best and it's what Microsoft headquarters uses on all there computers feel free to google that if you don't believe me. It takes up very little system resources. Of course don't rely on just one av software every now and then run one of the free online scans every now and then

for spyware spybot with teatimer running is a fine free option. Download the free adware version and run that sometimes too.

Ewido works with av software and antispyware software runnign resident and really seems to pick up the stuff int he middle. It is pay software i think is 30 bucks and is worth it.

If you do everything above you will probly never have any problems with your computer. Just use nod32 and you can setup a whole list of tasks to run other software and set spybot ewido and your av software to run once a day. Youll figure it out its fairly easy. Put (pathtospyboat)/spybot.exe /autoupdate /autoscan /autoclose to keep that program up to date and scan without you even needing to worrk about it

These FREE programs are better that Norton and McDaffy anti-virus. If you really want to throw away your money it's OK with me.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)

The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version

AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

for further information on computer safety.

Virus: AVG Free Edition
Spyware: Ad-aware and Microsoft Defender (from microsoft.com). Run both as their list of spywares vary and one will catch things the other does not.
Firewall: Zone Alarm

All free. And all (except defender) available at download.com

hi, i recommand you to use firefox. firefox is more safe than IE.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

firefox can edit which site/popup to block and unblock.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
