I have a business administration minor and have worked in the banking, accounting, and insurance fields the past 5 years. I'm not sure if I should just take some courses to get a B.S. Finance, get an MBA, or just take a financial planner certification program.

You certainly don't need a business degree to become a financial planner. You don't even need a business degree to become a cretified financial planner. I've attached some information from the CFP board. There is good informatino on this site.

Good luck!

They have changed the rules for becoming a financial planner, you have to have a degree. It doesn't matter if you have an art degree, you'll need a degree to be a CFP. Then you'll need your series 6 or 7, then your Health and life license. If your going to be a RFC (Register Financial Consultant) then you don't need a degree yet. If you go to Smith Barney, Ameriprise, Merril Lynch they are looking for a degree no matter what.

Get the degree, and then get your CFP. It will save you a lot of headache.

The changes January 1st, 2007, and you do need a degree.
