zines are self plublish mini-magazines. kinda like blogs, but istead of online they are either written by hand, photocopied, typed, or drawn on paper. the pages can be stapled, tied with ribbons, glued, or what ever the author wants. they come in amany different sizes and forms some are leaves tied togther,
some are on recycled trash, others are just plain note book paper
they are usually cheaply made. but some are in book form.
they can be free or sold for money at some bookstores. the more it cost the authors the more it will sale for. I think Portland is a zine meca center if your into zines thats were you should look. or go to your local bookshops they should have works of local writers.

when i was younger (about 12 years ago) a zine was an independent magazine. they were underground and all my friends and I made them, most of the ones i came across were music zines. people would interview local bands and write poetry, etc. all you need is a kinkos.

A zine—an abbreviation of the word fanzine—is most commonly a small circulation, non-commercial publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest.
