my laptop is running on windows xp and my pc is on windows 2000. i'm running the setup wizard (on my laptop) and it's telling me that i need to create a setup disk. now, the only way it's letting me do this is by plugging in a memory stick (which i don't have) or i can put the windows xp cd (which again, i don't have) into my other computer. i'm trying to do this all wirelessly and i'm having a really tough time with this. any suggestions?

u dont really need the setup disk.

go 2 each computer, click Start -> right click My Computer -> left click Properties -> go to the Computer Name tab and make sure that the Workgroup is the same.

if its not, click the Change... button and change it to the same.

the other thing u need 2 make sure of is that the computer that is connected physically to the internet *and printer, etc.* is the computer that is connected to the "residential gateway"

When it prompts you to get the set up disk, just pick the last option which is something like "just run the set up". It will continue without making the disk. Then go run the set up on the other computer. All making the disk does is make a file that answer all the question on your other PC the same as the first PC. But since one is XP and the other 2000, it won't work anyways.

I'm not sure you even need the setup disk. Just run the network wizard on both computers, and it should set things just fine.

When setting up your network, be sure to have both machines on the same "Workgroup". You can name it whatever you want, but just make sure both are the same. It makes life a lot easier.
