You need to get the vehicle to a brake shop - and it's going to cost, because now they have to replace the pads and rotors, although it may be (not likely) just turned.
Have it towed, or you'll just do more damage.

I don't have much experience with car trouble, but I think it is your brakes need changing. Usually, brakes do make a grinding noise when you need to change them. I'm not sure if the car is safe to keep driving to a repair shop. Call and ask them.

It is hard to say from here what has gone wrong, however, it sounds as if: -
1. Something is caught in between the brake pad(s) and the disk, (small possibility).
or
2. Something in the brake system has let loose, (good possibility.)
or
3. Your brake system is worn out, another posibility.
I don't think it would be wise to drive the vehicle as it is because the brakes could fail completely.
Or if something has let go or something has got caught then more damaged could be done if it is driven.
When you contact your tow truck company tell them about the noise, they may have to lift all four wheels off the road to tow it.

grinding indicates the pads are worn down to bare metal. might wanna get them replaced. scraping metal usually indicates a warped rotor. meaning that yor rotor is slightly bowed out from all the heat from braking etc. you will most likely need to get yoru pads and rotors replaced. usually around 4-5 hundred.

It's still safe to drive, but they need to be changed soon. Around here a new set of brakes costs $80 per axle,[that's both front or both rear] if you need rotors that's another $45 per wheel, Also they might want to sell you new wheel bearing and seals.

You need brake pads, probably the back plate of the now worn pads in tubbing onto your rotors thus damaging them. GO TO THE SHOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Your brake shoes are worn out and you are grinding your rotors. If you have damaged them too much they can not be turned, meaning you will spend more to fix them. Go straight to a brake shop, do not pass go.
