my hubby and I are going through a similiar situtation. I have been to all the cities (lived in San Fran) that you are thinking about.
Seattle-beautiful city, lots of rain, good public transportation, think most ppl live in the suburbs. Lots to do and see but weather is not for a 'beach' type person. I spent the least amount of time there so not sure about everything. People seem to be more serious, older, higher income. Would be the last choice personally of these 3.
San Fran- very consisent city, the weather is about the same year round never getting really hot or really cold. Great public transportation, lots to do, good resturants, nightlife, shopping, etc and also lots of things to do nearby (Napa, etc.) People if you are a little 'different so to speak you will fit in. San Fran seems to have lots of interesting and totally diff people. Might freak out some, personally I loved it. my #1 pick
San Diego- great weather, for a really beachy type person, downtown area is kind of boring, but I heard that there is nightlife there...just never personally seen it. Good resturants, traffic is okay, public trans sucks. It is pretty much on the border so you do have lots of transient type people that move through the city. Lots to do nearby and also up the coast. As far as people I think you will find of the 3 the most laid back are ppl in this city. Very casual and comfy...which I love too! My #2 pick
If I had to pick 3 favorite west coast cities, the 3 you listed would defiantly be it. I think you will be happy with any of those. It depends on your likes weather, personaility, etc once you figure that out you will figure out the best fit.

Family lives in San Diego...never ever hot. Never above 80 degrees, never below 50 degrees. ( I live in Indiana now and it goes from 90 degrees in summer to below zero wind chill in the winter) People are pretty laid back. Learn to drive fast. Expensive property though. Neat for families because there are so many free and low price things to do.
I have a problem with the culture of San Francisco. I never seemed to meet any normal people who live there (except my sister in law, and yes she is a lesbian). It's just a weird place. Pretty to look at.
Seattle is a busy city, property values have really shot up lately, but you can try to move slightly south and the prices go down while the value is still good.
I would move to which ever city is going to get me the best job. If you own a house, see if you can rent it for 6 months, or do a purchase option, that way if you are not happy, you can move back "home".

Hmmmm, all great choices; I can see your quandary! I Think outside of San Francisco are, like Marin County; You're close enough to enjoy the nightlife/activities of beautiful San Fran but living in a very relaxing environment; But then in San Fran and San Diego, earthquakes....I don't know: I think they're about due for a BIG ONE! Seattle is beautiful and clean, but kind of rainy/misty....Hell, I'd move to Hawaii...specifically, Maui!

My first choice would be Seattle. I love misty rain. When I went everyone seemed very friendly and it was easy to get around. My second choice would be San Francisco. Although I wouldn't want to drive there. It's beyond crazy. San Diego wouldn't even make my list. Nice to visit, but rather boring after awhile.

Depends on what kind of person you are... I am going to say a Big NO on Seattle all together. Rains waaay to much for someone who has been in the desert. San Diego is beautiful. San Franciso is nice too but doesnt beat SD.

You definatley do not want to live in Frisco it is way to expensive and the people suck, I don't mean it literally but it does. Nice Place to visit but you don't want to live there.
I've lived in Seattle it's a nice place to live but the traffic sucks, and the weather is not like Calif. but it really isn't bad.
San Diego is nice all year round but that gets a little boring some times to the point you don't appreciate it as much.
I'd vote for San Diego. But for me I like Anchorage Ak, lots of outdoor stuff to do there hunting, fishing, sking, Alaska has it all.
Great people, nice restaurants, Beautiful scenery. Good money it can be a little lonely though at times, but that is why we go to chillkoot charlies right!

Hands down, as long as you can afford it, San Francisco!!!! There is culture, great shopping, ethnic neighborhoods of all kinds, you are close to the beach and the ocean, yet near beautiful vineyards and vastland too. It's not too hot or too cold. You have beautiful days, and gorgeous cool nights. It is a romantic city; because it is culturally diverse it is so on the cutting edge. It is like Manhattan on the West Coast! You are close to Vegas, you can drive down the PCH anytime you want a change of scenery. Your options are limitless! So, what's the problem now? Best of luck!

Weather is the key.
Seattle is rainy, San Francisco foggy and San Diego hot.
What suits your clothes better?

North County San Diego.
These days I prefer a more casual and relaxed environment - and warm weather . SF is a great place to visit - especially for dining. But the lofty perception most there have of themselves is a little nauseating.
