My pickle is that I have local groups that i'm responsible for. Groups like my crochet guild and my knitting group. My knitting group meets every Saturday at a coffeehouse. Free of charge. Pretty simple, really.
My Crochet guild is a Crochet Guild Of America charter so people will find us if the go the CGOA site, but that's not enough. I wish I could make it more visible in the community so local needlers could see it and realize that there are lots of local enthusiasts (and we do have a lot of people in our groups) who get together on several days of the week and they should come and join us.
The problem is how to publicize it. The best place would be a store that sells yarn, but none of them will let me put up a poster or anything. I wish I could get a poster up somewhere. Does anyone have any creative ideas?
I have our info on a couple sites of the internet and I have made our Yahoo Groups sites. So if you know any sites that have a local groups listings that would help. Thanks!

You might want to try a short advertisement in a local newspaper. Or you might want to organize a community service event (like donating blankets to a local shelter) and submit an article to let people know that your are there and what you do.
You may just simply try supermarkets, post offices, just everyday places on the normal errand trip.
Another idea is to sponsor another group, like little league baseball, or donate some of your creations at a charity auction, etc.
I'm manager for a band so I'm constantly looking for ways to promote also.

Have you tried the local churches? Many of the churches will allow you to post items like that in their newsletters and hang posters if you donate an item to the church's charity. Sometimes even having someone say a prayer at the beginning will qualify your group for church ads.
Library's are good places to advertise also.
