conception

2006-07-28 07:56:53 · answer #1 · answered by bam_32473 2 · 0 0

The process is called fertilization or conception and the result is called a zygote. After the new single-celled human (the zygote) divides a few hundred times it becomes a blastocyst, a clump of cells that implant in the wall of the uterus. Eventually (if it's lucky) the blastocyst develops into an embryo and then into a fetus.

The process of fertilization creates a zygote, which once it attaches to the uterus, becomes an embryo. After a few weeks, it is a fetus.
