1. going to start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system resotre. if you get a message asking if you would like to turn on system resotre select no and go to step 2, otherwise select create a new resote point and click next. call it something like "Clean up". click finish. when done go to step 2

2. go to start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> disk cleanup. it will take a little to scan so just be paitient. after it finishes there will be a window where you can check/uncheck boxes check: downloaded program files, temp. internet files, recycle bin, temp. files, webcliet/pub. temp. files, temp. offline files, offline files, and compress old files(do not worry if you do not have all of these, also if anything else says temp. check it.)
click ok, and then click yes.

3. when it finishes go back to it again. now select the more options tab on top if you didn't get the message in the first step asking if you would like to activate sys. restore then select the clean up button under system restore. (if you did get the message in step one just click ok) after that is done select ok

4. go to IE explorer(even if you do not use it). go to tools on the menu bar -> internet options, click delete cookies, delete files, delete files (again) - check the offline box and select ok, click clear history, and then change the number in the keep pages in history to 5 or less days. then click ok and close IE. If you get any windows asking if you want to do this just click yes/ok.

5. if you have fire fox go to internet options on there and select clear all and select ok and then close fire fox.

5.5 go to start -> all programs -> startup (but right click on it and select open) it will open in a window and then you can remove some items that you do not want to start up when your computer first starts up just drage them to the recycle bin. make sure they are just shrotcuts - will have the little arrow in the lower left corner of the picture.

6. go to start -> control panel -> add/remove programs. it will take a little bit to load so just be paitient. once it loads go through the list and look for anything that you do not use: example yahoo toolbar, google toolbar, old game you do not play. if you question it do not do anything to it.

7. go into your mydocuments and clear out anything that you do not want any more. old pictures, music, movies, etc.

8. run your antivirus program if you do not have one check link out below.

9 run your antispyware program if you do not have one check links out below.

10. go to start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmentor. just select dirve (C:) and click defragment. after it has finished if you have any more drives do the same to them.

this should help your computer run faster.

There's plenty of gear round that declare to try this, however you would have an unwelcome shock when you use it. Programs are in general high-quality eliminated from the manage panel .. upload / take away systems. Music can also be deleted making use of Windows explorer, atmosphere the dossier view to variety via kind and checking directories that you recognize or suspect have tune. If there is simply too so much dross, you probably happier simply saving some thing you desire to hold onto a cd, after which reinstalling your running method after formatting the tough force. Of direction you are going to lose the whole lot, so make certain you've stored each file, snapshot that you just are not able to reside with out.

Go to start menu, control panel, add/remove programs. Choose the program to be remove and computer will do the rest, you need to do this repeatedly for each program to be removed. Some programs may not appear in this section so you'll need to know these programs address, C/windows/i.e. then you can delete these files, be cautious though many programs share files and dll's when the dialog box comes up to delete all or not to delete all choose not to delete all. Avoid deleting icons, this will only erase shortcuts and leave the program in your system. After removing all unwanted program return to Start menu go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup follow instructions. Return to Start Menu, Programs,System Tools, De-fragment. Drives you choose for these operation depend on what drive you hard drive is. It is normally C. This will insure you computer will run at optimum speed. You can also look in Device Manager to see if your supporting any unneeded hardware. Hope this was helpful

Delete your cookies and temp internet files to start with. You can go to control panel>add or remove programs and look through those and get rid of ones you don't use. Get the Adaaware program at www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware which will get rid of spyware.

You can also get Startup Inspector at www.windowsstartup.com to make sure there are no unneeded programs running.

This might help.

Go to the Start menu, hit that, go to control panel, then hit 'add or remove programs'. From there, go down the line and start removing unwanted or obsolete programs. That's the quickest way to get rid of bulk. Once finished, you might have to restart your computer.

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!

Go to start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Disk clean up.

In addition, you can try increasing virtual disk space by going to Control panel-->System-->Advanced-->Performance-->Settings-->Advanced-->Change and increase the virtual Memory and distribute them on different volumes if you do not have enough space on any one of your partitions...
