I just put a bunch of school clothes on layaway for my kids, and want to put some more on. Can you have more than one layaway account?

Yes but you can't touch the individual layaways to remove just a few things (my friend tried to do this) until the individual layaway is paid off. Also, you have to pay some on each of the layaways and you must pay them within the amount of time they specify.
