It should be legalized and taxed. Once it is legalized, the price will drop because the market will open up. Better, safer grades will be available with less risk to the buyer. Marijuana contains all kinds of medicinal compounds not found naturally in any other known source.
Most other recreational drugs are not only not beneficial, they are actually destructive to one's health. If they are legalized, they should be taxed extremely harshly to limit their consumption.

Marijuana is just as addictive as alcohol. but its obvious that some who answered this question should scale back their use. (hint use spell check). Nevertheless, the issue is how to punish those who use it against the laws that are in place to restrict its use. It is called weed because that is exactly what it is. It grew everywhere, and according to a history channel documentary there was a complete agenda in making it illegal. The government currently makes and charges millions of dollar in the war on drugs. If you legalize half of the drugs sold in America then how do you explain the need for more officers. There are many benefits to growing cannabis besides smoking it. The stem is some of the strongest rope there is, and the side effects of smoking are not as destructive to the body as drinking alcohol in large amounts. But in order to legalize it you have to have in place a standard as well as control measures like you have with tobacco. Anyway if you make it legal you'll force all those drug dealer who buy useless toys, that the state takes and sells for $50, to actually become productive members of society. Who in their right mind could want that.

I think it should be legal. It's far less dangerous than both alcohol and cigarettes, and people should be able to excersize common sence as to whether it's something they want to do or not.
If it was legalised, the crime rate would drop, and I believe that it's usage would probably end up being lower overall, because it would lose its attraction as being an illicit substance. People who have troubles with marijuana would be more likely to seek help for it instead of remaining silent because they are afraid of being persecuted by others, though, I honestly think that the only reason it's not legalised is because there's no real way to put a tax on it or control growth for personal use.

I am open minded, but not THAT open minded. I think that marijuana is no more harmful or addictive than alcohol as long as it does not have dangerous additives on the street. Of course, that danger could be eliminated if it was made and sold legally. Other drugs are highly addictive and should not be made legal for recreational use.

I myself have never tried marijuana, but I personally know people who have used it for medicinal purposes. They tried many other meds, but nothing else was effective. There are prescription medications that are much more dangerous and much less effective, but are very legal and very expensive.

Also, it is absurd that marijuana is not legal even for recreational purposes. If alcohol is still legal, so should marijuana. If we can use laws to control alcohol consumption, the same can be done for marijuana.

There is so much judgement in our society. Everyone is dying to find something they can tell you how to behave. Don't smoke this, don't screw that! Who cares! As long as marijuana is used responsibly it should be legal.

Bunch of uptight puritans running our world!

Of course it should be legal. First of all, it is no more harmful than cigarettes or alcohol. Second the government should not be in the business of legislating morality. And third, it would be legal, if it was the biggest crop of one of our states, and not a foreign country.

All drugs should be legal. What you do to yourself is nobody's business. There should just be laws about driving stoned, like there are laws about driving drunk.

Pot is like booze in that you'll never get people to stop using it. I really believe that if the government got it's sh*t together and legalized the stuff that they would make a fortune in taxes from the sale of it, just like they do cigarettes, liquor, wine, beer and gas.

Its a controlled substance, that grows out of the ground, for FREE, and the government can make money on it, by making it illegal.
