Slavery was at it's worst. The state were preparing for Civil War. The Industrial Revolution hadn't started. Poor immigrants were used and abused when they got off the boat.
Had to be the worst.

1860s- We fought a Civil War nothing else can compare to fellow citizens, neighbors and even family members taking arms against each other.
1930s- Second Place for the Great Depression and the run up to World War II
