Lay out on a beach-chair, splash around a bit, maybe take a few dives from the diving board, or maybe catch some waves on a boogie-board

At the beach, I basically bob in the water and ride the waves while treading water. At the pool, I swim around or dive off the diving boards.

when i go to the pool it's usually to go swim 2-3 miles (practice). if i'm swimming at home or at my friends house we usually play water ball. at the beach i sometimes do a 5 kilometer swim in the ocean, it's across a large bay and back. if i'm at a different beach i might just swim around for half an hour or try to body ride some waves.

It can be a lot of things. If I am with my wife only, we will float and talk out past the breakers, and occassionally swim a freestyle stroke for a bit. I like to body surf, where you swim to catch a wave and let it carry you to shore. I also like to dive under waves.

If I am with my two young girls, we splash and play in the shallows, and I help them jump into or over small waves.

You "swim" by doing anything fun and keeps you from drowning. Whether its doing strokes or by diving into the waves and jumping around.

Beach:
you don't really swim because of the current and the water taste like fish pee when you accidently swollowed some. just splash around and hope the seawater gets into someone elses eyes and sting the crap outta them, then make your escape.

Pool:
Try to hold your breath the longest and duck your friends head underwater and stuff. when doing the second one look around constantly and make sure no lifeguards are around. after that leave quickly you friend will probably want to get his revenge.

In the ocean or a lake I like to swim out as far as I can safely, laze around for a while and swim slowly back in.
