Ok..I think i could give you a decent answer because i lived in the ghetto in the north(BPT,CT) and the ghetto in the south, which i currently moved to about a year and half ago(ATL,GA)!! In some ways it is like the north like the crimes by black folks. But you peoplecommiting crimes just as much as black people too! And i wouldnt say that theirs white wanstas or black ones either in the Dirty South because they not acting hard its just how they is. Ya dig!! And yes theres the ghettos but thats everywhere you go. I mean Ct is the richest state in the U.S but it got at least 5 VERY BAD ghettos of its own. And i would never ever call it trashy. Thats sort of on that just straight out hating thing. So yes in some ways it is like the north. What part of the north you live in?

That is everywhere. DA Durty South is full of negative blacks, ghettos, projects, welfare, crunk music, Lil Jon, crime, trashy white and black people, illegal aliens, racism, and more. It also has more positive things like the music, the weather, the beaches, the community support, the schools, the atmosphere, the southern cuisine. I live in VA and it is a mixture of everything. Atlanta is more popular cause of the celebrities from there. It is okay in the southern states.

U idiot, do not believe everything you see on television. According to it everyone who does not live in New York is slow and country!!! There is crime everywhere and ghettos and wanksta whites are also everywhere. You must be young or something for asking this question. You think the south is slow come to Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Memphis, Little Rock, Baton Rouge, or even Charleston; they will definitely change your perception. Metropolitan places are not just located up north!!! And please do not watch a rap video and think that it represents the South either. Too many fools are trying to dress like these cats who have stylists who are dressing them a particular way to sell records. There are hard working people who are out living for real trying to pay bills and take care of families just like where you are from!!! How 'Bout that Answer?!?!?

I am origianlly from Biloxi, MS. I lived there for 25 years. I have since moved to Salisbury, MD. I can say that there are a lot of similarities between both. In MS, the crime is pretty normal -nothing too outrageous and not a whole lot. There are ghettos and a lot of trashy people in both places. In Ms, we do a lot of things like in MD. We wear shoes and clothes the same. We do the same things on the weekend - go to clubs, go out, etc. MS was pretty normal to me.

We recently moved to the South from California within the last year. I find that a majority of the crimes here are white! Racism is sadly alive and well here. The Good ol boy mentality is also alive here. The population here is mainly white and black. I see prisoners cleaning in town (prison here is all about working) and a majority of them are black - I don't know where they come from because in our local paper its mostly white people committing the crimes.

Think of Detroit on a Saturday night.
Think about Atlanta on a Saturday night.
No difference.
I don't think that people need to think of one section of the country as more prejudice, more crime ridden, poorer, etc.
From the tone of your question, I perceive that your view of the world is skewed through a dark prism.
Get over it. There are good people everywhere. There are no significant difference in the races, other than some superficial blemishes in all of them.
In addition, there are poor people everywhere. There are drug dealers and people who perceive that they are entitled just because they exist.
The South has no more of the good ones than they have of the bad ones.

maybe only if you live in a big city. i live in a little town in NC, and it is nothing like that. sure we have a lot of "rednecks" and people who drive pick-up trucks around, but the people are really friendly. it's a small town, and everyone knows everyone. main street still shuts down every day after about 6 p.m. people still head to one of the many little (mostly Baptist) churches on Sunday morning.
we also have problems with junkyards, trailers, and methamphetamine. there are almost no black people in this town, and occasionally you still hear racist comments. people fly confederate flags.
it's stereotypical in some ways, because stereotypes come from somewhere, but not every place is like what you described
