I'm not a Christian. I see that there are a lot of religious hypocrites who use the bible to bash people over the heads.... BUT, I see that there are a lot of GAY HYPOCRITES too. Why is it that Gay people are allowed to freely speak their minds about the evils of religion, but now it's virtually illegal to publically speak your mind about the evils of homosexuality.

In my opinion, Christian "activists" and Gay "activists" are both idiots.

I'm gay, but I don't speak out on the "evils of religion", mainly because I don't think there are any. It's my view however that if you need a blueprint to live your life, then that's a sad happening. The only reason I see to "speak out" against religious persons is when they start telling gays that they're going to hell for simply wanting the same rights and reconintion of their love for another gay person, that straight couples have always had. Those straight couples have never had their right to marry taken away from them nor denied. It's hypocritical of the religious right to say that one form of HUMAN love is right, but not another. Also, it's in the laws that anything against gays is a form of discrimantion, aka hate speech. Although it's also a form of hate speech to go against straights, in the way that some say "staights are breeders" or whatnot. It's a two sided coin that people tend to look over.

You answered your own question - it is called hypocrisy and it is weapon of choice for both groups. The 'religious' offenders forget the teachings of the very bible they use as a weapon and the 'gay activists' use the hate and discrimination they despise against those that speak against them.

I do not agree that 'activists' are idiots.... a true activist would be someone whose actions go to the betterment of their particular cause or issue. Not to the continual 'bashing' normally displayed in this forum.

It is never Ok to bash anyone. Where I live the entire county has been participating in anti bullying campaigns.. I wish we could take some of the stuff that the children have come up with to the White House, or even to national news. These kids know that bullying in any form, to include bashing, is wrong.. so why don't all the adults?

there is a difference between "activists" and Zealots! which is what the bashing over the head types are. Zealots! Very dangerous in whatever flavor they come in by the way! Do Not Feed or attempt to reason with in anyway! Could get you bitten!

It's not ok. I'm often the one on some message boards I frequent to have to step in and remind people that they're being jerks. So...around me, gay people are NOT allowed to say "Christians suck" or whatever.

I wouldn't extend that to activism, however. Christianity is excepted; I don't really know what activism would focus around, so I really can't address that. There are legal rights that are currently offered everyone else, but not us. What do you propose we do about that, short of something that I would call "activism"?

I was just thinking about this earlier today, since I agree with you (although I would not call them idiots... since some are simply fighting for what they consider to be "survival" or for seemingly good reasons).

But the hypocrisy on both sides bothers me a great deal. There is no reason why an intellectual disagreement ("God approves homosexual" or "God disapproves homosexuality") should result in mistreatment and revilement of other human beings, some of whom have struggled hard to find a responsible interpretation or at least are greatly struggling with identity issues.

Jesus says, "Love your enemies." This means treating them respectfully, as human beings shaped in God's image. It doesn't mean avoid disagreement, it means "love" in the FACE of disagreement.

I wish we could all just share our ideas about the issue(s) without accusing each other of hatred and treating each other with contempt.

I don't think bashing either group is right. However, I think that members of the LGBT community have the right to be upset with conservative Christians, I know I am. But that doesn't mean I bash them, I criticize.
