You're completely missing the point. The Bible is your guide to a relationship with the Creator and sustainer of the world, the personal God. It does have literary, historical, and scientific qualities, including gore and some comedy, but that's not the point in it. If you want explanation of the Bible, talk to the nearest pastor in your neighborhood. If you just want gory stuff and comedy, go to a bookstore and find a book. The Bible is a sacred book; ultimately, you will answer to God for having made a joke out of it. Please keep it holy.

Read Joshua and Judges, some woman stabs a guy in the head with a tent stake... Crazy! The Lord can be pretty angry too! The Bible really isn't that tedious, it just repeats things alot, but it's best if read with some sort of guide or study.
And there are so many Christian comedians out there, that take scence from the Bible and find the humor.

There is a book called the Texts of Terror which discusses some of the atrocities committed against women in the Bible. I had to read it for a Feminist Theologies course I took in college. It was fascinating.

But as far as Cliffs Notes goes, nothing can replace reading the Bible...don't cheat yourself out of the experience. If you read a little each night you can get through it easily enough. It's inspiring and comforting.

I have a copy of the "CliffsNotes" that you can have if you are willing to pay for shipping. I got it for my daughter for her AP class, but she is finished with them. But, if you are looking for comedy, you are probably reading the wrong book! Try Dante's "The Divine Comedy" or Milton's "Paradise Lost". They have a different take on the ideas of heaven and hell that you might find interesting.
