It really depends on what area of Texas you are in. I live in Houston, where we hardly have a winter at all, and when we do it only lasts about a month. Usually in fall (sept, oct, nov) we were short sleeves with pants, capris (ladies, of course) and shorts. Long sleeves are okay as long as it's a light fabric, because even in November we still battle humidity (and we're still in the midst of hurricane season. The further north you go from Houston, the more "normal" it becomes, because of us being in the southeast and so close to the Gulf Of Mexico. Dallas has true falls and winters most of the time, with snow in the winter. Houston rarely gets that, maybe once every ten years, and you can't actually consider it real "snow". It's just enough here to make mud. Most cities and areas in the mid to northern regions of Texas have very cool, crisp autumns that would allow and most times even necessitate you wearing fall clothing.

it depends on what part of texas you live in. if you live in the south central part you are mandated by law to wear mukluks and bikini tops on every other wednesday in september. if you live in amarillo then in october you must wear hula skirts over your coat if there is smow on the first of october. the people in mcallen are required to wear long sleeves with their bare behinds showing the last week of september. in austin clothing is optional at all times.
