Pros:
Light, few moving parts, high rev and power output.
Cons:
Fuel hungry, lip seals wear rapidly, limited mechanics who can repair them.

They only have 3 firing chambers so if you have a bad plug or plug wire and lose one, it probably won't run unlike a 6 or 8 cylinder car that will still get you home if you're not firing on all cylinders.

Cons: low mpg, high oil consumption, may not be good long-term concerning emmisions
Pro: rev's freely, lightweight.

I know they may have trouble starting sometimes.
