I tell my students that it's usually best to first convert mixed fractions into improper so you're dealing with a "standard fraction" having a number on top and one on the bottom.

So 1 5/7 would be come 12/7 (whole # x denominator + numerator).

Now we've got 2/3 X = 12/7.

The KEY to solving algebra problems is to get the unknown variable, X in this case, all by itself by doing the exact opposite of what's being done right now.

Since we're multiplying X by 2/3, we'd do the opposite by dividing both sides by 2/3, which would give us X = 12/7 divided by 2/3.

When dividing fractions, you flip the one you're dividing by upside-down, and then multiply. So 12/7 divided by 2/3 would become 12/7 times 3/2, which would give us 36/14, which could be reduced down to 18/7.

So X = 18/7.

If you want your answer as a mixed, simply divide the top by the bottom (18 divided by 7) giving you 2 4/7.

I suggest you retype the equation because it is read in many ways. Reading it in many ways results for many answers. Please write the equation in letters so that it is understood.
