You should always go to court if you get a ticket. The worst thing that can happen is you are found guilty and have to pay the fine, that you would have anyway. Usually you can end up with a reduced fine, or no points on your license if you go to court.

There is a chance that the officer will not show up, or not have the paperwork needed. There is also a chance that the Judge be willing to cut you some slack.

Go to court!!

And yes, I have gotten out of a ticket, just because the officer was not in court!!

Yes I have fought and beat a traffic ticket, here's my strategy. First get an extension (usually 30 days) then ask for another extension, the reason for getting any extensions is to place you farther from the citing officer's mind. Once you run out of extensions tell the court that you want to contest the fine you will have to pay the fine and a date is set for court now they will have to schedule the citing officer into court on that day if you are lucky he has vacation or other more important things to do and won't show (you win), if he shows and now it's been 60 days at least he may stand up and say no recollection of the events (you win) but, if you gave him any reason to have a hard on for you he'll be there and remember everything because he will have noted on the back of your ticket what an asshole you were.

Good Luck.

I did, and I lost. But I learned a lot, so it's a chance you might want to take. In most places, if the officer doesn't show up, you will win the case, and there's always a chance he won't make it to court. And there are other tips that might better your chances at getting the ticket dismissed.

It depends on what the ticket is for. I've won in situations where I could prove that I was wrong with a logical explanation why I was in the position I was in. I don't bother going to court if I know I can't prove my case. I just pay it.

Not me personally, but I know someone who got a ticket, but when he showed up to court the motorcycle cop did not show up and the ticket was dismissed. What a lucky felon !

I was guilty and went to see if the deputy that wrote it would show up. He did but it was nice to at least take some more time out of his day. I was keeping society safe from a**holes.

this was the craziest thing:

it was x-mas eve 2004. i was driving to my mom's who happens to live in the same town as my ex-fiance. out of nowhere this pick up truck is totally on my ***. it won't pass me when i slow down and just keeps pushing me fa aster and faster. it was pretty late at night and couldn't see the truck only its lights. this truck chased me for about 20 Min's at speeds up to 160km/hr! thought for sure it was my ex and that he was pissed. finally i get to my mom's town but as soon as i turn off the highway the red and blue lights come on! a friggin cop! i couldn't believe it. he walks up to my window and i asked what the hell he was doing! he freaks out and threatens to throw me in jail for reckless driving yaddah yaddah...anyway i fight the ticket and go to court. had to be my own lawyer and cross examine the cop myself. the guy totally lied under oath and everything but the judge could tell and threw the ticket out and gave the cop a lecture on his "behavior unbecoming to an officer of the RCMP" it was awesome !
