Like in 1994 when I was coming up all the stupid little white kids talked about the crips like it was the thing to do. Now my younger brother is about 16 and he doesn't seem to think that the crips are all that cool. What's the deal?

Where did you grow up? Sounds like my story. I grew up in a white suburban neighborhood. Now I see it is more like skate boarding and Good Charlotte is in and all the gangsta stuff is out

Being an ex-cop and gang intel. gather.
I would say that in California they are there, but ppl lost interest.
The big gangs now are the mexican mafia, La Eme, Latin Kings...to name a few. Even the Motorcycle gangs are losing their interest being over run by the yuppie weekend bikers.
Hells Angels have gone corporate and clash with the Sons of Silence, but I think they were trying to take the sons over or merge.
Gangs are becoming extinct, plus getting "jumped" in does not look fun. If he wants to join a gang try a church group. It's more safer and they are pretty cool ppl.

The Crips are a black gang created to protect their territory and protect each other from other gangs. All them "wanna be" white boys are just asking for trouble from the real gangs and the police. I would think that these "boys" need to get their sheeit together and stop with the gang activity because those that know-know they are just punks looking for a reputation.

Your brother is just smart and sees himself as an individual, not a piece to a larger group of people. I know younger kids that still act like being in a gang is the coolest thing, so just be happy that your brother is not a follower.
