I would like to know if the word obea in Jamaica is related to church

Well, you might say it is related to church in that some people in Jamaica have as much faith in obeah as others have in the word of God. As someone else already answered 'Obeah' is black magic, and is practiced by persons called "obeah men" or Obeah women" generally living in rural areas of Jamaica. These people are what other parts of the caribbean may call 'Witch Doctors'. They use "witchcraft" to bring about certain behaviours in other people. A common folktale in Jamaica might be about a woman who went to an obeah man to ask that he put obeah on her husband becasue he has been unfaithful to her. The husband would then probably get very sick or lose control of his behaviour, and his life would start going crazy. Hope that helps!
