dude, aren't u sick of a democracy that stops at the polls, where political fatcats, who have a 98% incumbancy rate, squabble over meager details, when there are decisions to be made-fast. to me democracy should continue into the run of the guy the american people elected, and the people should have a directer say. this republicanism of ours takes power from the people when it should be invested in the average citizen, and their councils etc.(i advocate a revolutionary socialism where it is run by the people either directly, or through workers councils meetings)liberals and conservatives don't represent the average citizen, all they care about is money, their own power, and getting reelected. this republic is an oligarchy. what do you think

It's not really a democracy. It's only called a democracy by those in power so the general public will obediently go along with the program without complaining too much. The truth is, business and political leaders think they're too smart to let running the country be something the average person gets to do. They believe they are in positions of power because they are better than everyone else, and it is they that should be telling everyone else what to do. They would rather manipulate elections than let them run their course.

Media control is in the hands of the wealthy (and run in an autocratic rather than democratic manner). When you've got media control, you can stop reporting on real alternatives to the current system. Instead, you can make it seem like there's no better system possible, so you're stuck with the one you've got. (For example, most Americans have no idea how moderate social democracies in Europe function, but can immediately tell you what was wrong with the Soviet Union.) Better to fuel cynicism than the desire for revolution.

It sounds like you have a well formed opinion, are using yahoo answers, and are not really asking a question.

If you are asking me to agree with you, Im sorry but I dont. Your premise, if you think long and hard about it, is self-annhilating. If democracy doesnt work, then your revolt to create democracy is doomed.

The leaders of men are still men, and are still constrained by the limits of men. They, like Julius Caesar, still bleed, and more importantly, they have human failings.

So what proof before the fact can you offer that if your men are put into power they will not have human failings? Will they be able to overcome hate? How about greed or arrogance? Will they always only serve others? Can you prove it?

If they are equivalent to what we currently have, then its a waste of energy to change the guard. If they are worse then its a larger waste. If they are better, I would like to see you proove it with something other than propaganda. Give me a fundamental measure of the soul and nature of a man. Show me that its meaningful, and not contrived. Show me how justice is measured, what its geometry and structure consists of, so we can have only perfectly fair and just people in administering our courts. There are libraries composed of thousands of years of human being attempting by formal systems to overcome their own propensity for darkness, I dare you and by God compell you, if you have something better show it. And if you do not.. what use is my reply.

It is dust in the wind answering to dust in the wind.

I support the republic. However, as we move away from a republic towards a democracy, that is where our problems come from. Combine with an out of control court system, and whamo....tyranny.
