reasons why or why not he should try for 3rd ...say its 50/50 he can make it.?

i am thinking a base hit drives him in either way, but if he gets to third a bunt only works if the batter is safe cuz 2 outs...

If it's anything less than a sure thing, then it's not worth it. It would be nice to have him at third in case of a wild pitch or passed ball, but those don't occur often enough to offset the risk of ending the inning.

I guess the prevailing wisdom has always been that you don't make the first or third out of an inning at third, and I think that's a pretty good idea. The runner in this case, if there's any doubt, should stay at second and let the rally continue.

With 2 outs, the runner is running on any hit...as soon as he rounds second he should be looking at the 3rd base coach who will tell him to continue or stop on 2nd (if the ball is not caught). If it's a 3-2 count, the runner would have taken off on the pitch, so he could easily reach 3rd on a base hit. You always want to move over if you can to give your team the best possible chance to score.

Usually when there are two outs and the ball is hit into the outfield, runners who are forced to run take off as soon as they see where the ball is going just in case the outfielder drops it. In this case, going full-out, the runner should easily make it from first to third if the ball is dropped.

Because if you have 2 outs your not going to want to blow it going for a extra base. If the next batter hits one up the middal of the field your going to score.

Even if you were at 3rd and a ground ball was hit but cathc the ining would be over and runner won't be scored.

So he was smart by holding up.

With two outs.. any fly ball, the runners should advance to the "next" base.. always in this situation. Runners at first should be thinking 3rd... With two outs... it's a free pass to be aggressive...

If theres two out the runners should advance no matter what because the outfielder might drop it.

its baseball fundamentals that with two outs, you run on contact (unless you are on 2nd base with no one on first and a ground ball is hit to the shortstop or third baseman, because its easier for them to tag you).
