Okay, so none of us is here expecting to become genuinely enlightened by this forum. ...Still, even considering Y!A’s interactive fun factor, isn't it discouraging sometimes to run into so many downright insulting, smart-alecky, and cute-ignorant responses to even the most thought provoking questions?

You're right, there is definitely a fun factor here. I think that's why most people are here.
I answered a similar question a few days ago. There was a girl that was so disgusted by some of the questions and answers, she said she was going to leave.I asked her not to.
There are some people that are looking for honest and helpful answers. And, there are some that want to GIVE honest and helpful answers. And then you have the type that you described.
They ARE insulting, etc....not to mention just down right mean.
Doesn't it make you wonder where the " Monitors " are? Why don't they catch the type of questions that are insulting and mean???
Yes, it's discouraging at times. Just pick and choose your questions carefully, and answer as honestly as you can.

I find some of the questions to be insulting, smart alecky, and ignorant, nevermind the answers! It is discouraging!

I am here to ask and answer to gain and share knowledge. I'm not looking for genuine enlightenment, or for stuff I could find on google with ease, mostly opinions or how people feel about things. Not to rant about politics or religion. However if a question bristles me I do answer it... and I feed the animals in that sense.

Personally, I find that most of the questions DESERVE the smart-alecky responses that they get. Either the Y!A crowd is dumb as a brick, or everyone is just trying to get a rise out of everyone else. Very disappointing. Probably not at all what the Y! folks had anticipated would happen. Probbaly hoped it would be the like the BORG on Star Trek TNG where the collective intelligence of the BORG answered every question. Not here!!!

Hey there good point :) I agree with you. Its sometimes disgusting, and I just ignore those and move on to something thats interesting. I dont even try to respond or read it.

I think it depends on the person. I try my best to help people around as much as I can. Ive also seen weird questions and I have given some funny responses to them as well. But I do not think I have attempted to be cruel deliberately.

Yes, you're going along answering and rating, and having fun! You laugh with some, feel bad for some, and then POW!, someone will "do the fool", and as you say, "downright insult" anyone reading their post. Sad, sad, sad

Its like mental marathon to me. Atleast you are doing something more productive than watching TV. Their is whole variety of people, some witty, carefree, leg pullers & serious intorverts. Thats what makes a community. Sugar & spice go hand in hand.

Really not sure why the hell I come here, but been on it for a few months. Not as addicting as it was when I first started. Sometimes even gets on my nerves... but as long as I am paying for my high-speed internet cable, I will be on this computer!

I understand you, but by asking this question you really are just inviting others to respond in the ways that you don't want.

Nice Avatar by the way.

And lasty, some people like to be AA's. Anonymous Assholes

here is the order: share what i know, learn something, help make someone's day.

i don't let those "less then helpful" answers bother me. don't get me wrong, they are annoying for that split second that you read them but you just move on to read the next answer. i guess it would be safe to assume that earning points would be their motivation as to why they even bother.
