I have been to about every state but Hawaii and Alaska, I believe, so I guess I'll just answer from experience. I was in Utah once, and I will never go back. Salt Lake City in particular was the creepiest city I've ever been to. They way people act and the way things work reminds me of an Old West town right before a gunfight- when I was there, everyone kept their eyes down and was very quiet, I didn't hardly see people on the streets- and this was the weirdest thing to me... I went to a mall.. and there was no music.. and everyone walked around silent or talking in hushed tones. Nothing really menacing or bad, just kind of weird and disconcerting. It doesn't help any that there is the history of religious oppression and persecution there. A friend of mine once said when he was in Utah that it felt like death, and I don't think I can say it any better.

I've been through or in just about every state of the US (and some other countries as well) -- so this is a hard question to answer. My most negative feelings are from California, because where I was stationed it was high cost, everything was expensive (and outrageously so), there was a lot of crime/gang activity (and people were shot at the gates), and it was just plain dangerous -- either in uniform or out of it. The housing available was just out of the world in cost (and compared to anywhere else I lived -- it would be considered unacceptable to rent).

Okay...so I'm not giving up my day job. So instead, I guess I'll simply answer the question, lol. I would have to go with...Utah. Now my reasoning for this choice is very simple and very true, why if you were to analyze the reason you will find it is water tight....
Mormon scare me.
More then evil bears, crazy religious fanatics, and even more then our president's decision making skills.
As the capital of Mormantopia, I find myself avoiding Utah like the plague...and boy do I avoid my plagues!

To me, it seems like Nebraska would be kind of a boring state. It's a state that I have never really had any interest it visiting or living in, unless I had to. By the way, I have never met a Mormon who beat his wife, or had more than one wife.

Texas.
I'm not a prejudice person. But there are stereotypes about people from Texas. Are they true? I don't know. I've never been there. But maybe its just the locale I was brought up in, or the media.

Utah.
Daggone Mormons browbeating their wives back into the 1950's. I don't know it to be true for certain as I've not been there, but I've heard more than one story. I also could be wrong.

I don't need to know anything but the climate system to know whether the state is poor or not.
